Mahatma Gandhiji returned to our country from South Africa on this date, and the foremost thing he did was to build an ashram on the banks of the river Sabarmati, Gujarat. This is so famous the world over as Sabarmati Ashram, that hold umpteen historical events, that shaped our country’s freedom struggle against the oppressive British. The Mahatma resided here from 1917 to 1930. Here, Gandhiji revolutionized the existing manual labor, literacy, and agriculture for self-sufficiency. The Sabarmati Ashram holds a legacy and testimony of non-violence that Gandhiji stood for. Our salutations to our father of the nation and thousands of martyrs who laid their lives for our freedom.
