This beautiful planet that is inhabited by millions of living organisms, animals, plants, birds and other species, on land and in water and of course home to scores of us is THE EARTH. The first Earth Day was celebrated on the 22nd of April, 1970 heralding the foundation of the modern environmental program which we are aware of.

The environment plays a pivotal role in keeping the one and only home; that is the Earth safe. But how far have we understood this? There's rampant urbanization taking place without proper planning. Plastic is choking up our water bodies. Intermittent burning of fossil fuel is raising a red flag as the ozone layer is depleting quite fast! The Arctic and the Himalayan glaciers are melting with an alarming rate.

Today, to mitigate all these and more, adequate knowledge about safe guarding our environment must be taught to our younger generation quite early! Things that are quickly bio degradable must be used. Water bodies must be protected at any cost. Planting more saplings and not felling trees helps too. Encroachment of water bodies must be strictly prohibited and punishment imposed.

Let us be aware and let our youngsters the world over be even more aware as this is the only planet that we have. Let us preserve and conserve.
