Apartheid was rampant in South Africa, where the white majority enjoyed better benefits than their native South Africans. Even the father of our nation, Gandhiji, was at the receiving end on a train as he was shown the door because of his color. The rest, as we know, is history. A referendum was held in the year 1992, on the 17th of March, that asked the white South Africans to vote to root out apartheid by the president F. W. de Klarke. The white South African population voted for a game changing and overwhelming majority against apartheid! This ended the proposed apartheid system for ever. Elections were introduced for the first time as non racial that continues to this day! For a country to progress, every citizen must be at par as no discrimination must be made with race, creed or caste. Only then a country can prosper!
