Imagine Goa and the first pictures to flash by in our minds are the breathtakingly serene sun-kissed beaches of Goa. Bordering our state, it is well connected by road, rail, and air. It's a 'go-to' destination all year round. Today happens to be a special day as Goa was liberated from the Portuguese rule by the Indian army and annexed to our country in the year 1961. This was the last place to be annexed, and there were no more states ruled by any foreign powers thereafter! The Goans celebrate this day with a lot of fan-fare, cultural events, and flag hoisting.
Goan cuisine and culture are unique. Fishing is the main occupation and is exported overseas. There are many adventurous sports one can indulge in. The sunset is overwhelming! The Portuguese have left behind some architectural monuments like the Bom Jesus Church. This is an iconic church and is UNESCO world heritage site. As the Christmas vacation is closing in, a trip to the beautiful place can be inviting!
