Dasara or NAVARATRI is celebrated for 9 days in Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tripura, Bihar, Assam, Odisha and Jharkhand. The 10th day is celebrated as VIJAYADASHMI, conquering good over evil. Goddess Chamundeshwari is worshipped in 9 different avatars. Let us understand the first avatar of Dasara.
On the first day of Dasara, MAA SHAILAPUTRI is worshipped with a lot of Bhakti and devotion. In Sanskrit, the word "Shail" means "mountain," and Putri means daughter. She is the daughter of mountain king Himavant and the wife of Lord Shiva. She's worshipped as an embodiment of Mother Nature with sublime energy and who is also powerful. She is the provider of prosperity. Let us bow our heads to Mother Shailaputri on the first day.
