One of the greatest sons of India and a stalwart engineer was Mokshagundam Vishveshwariah. In spite of his humble beginnings, he was a trailblazer in his own right. A civil engineer by profession and appointed as Dewan of Mysore by the then erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore, he went on to create history under British rule! The famous KRS dam; Krishnaraja Sagara Dam, was built under his able guidance, which stands as a testimony to its resilience even to this day. The Cauvery soaked the parched fields of Mandya, making it a fertile land to grow paddy and sugarcane and drinking water to the entire region; including Bangalore. He was knighted by the Queen of the British Royal Empire, and thus, 'Sir' was added as a prefix! Furthermore, he received the highest civilian order in our country 'Bharath Ratna' for his young service to the nation. His birth anniversary is commemorated as 'Engineers Day' in our country. There isn't a dearth of great personalities in our country for youngsters to follow. Let there be more and more sincere and honest Sir M.Vs to build our great nation. Happy Engineers Day.
