India, our country is making waves in many sporting arenas in the world, the latest being the Paris Olympics. Earlier to this, our country won gold in hockey, a feat yet to be surpassed by today's generation! To bestow the honor on our legendary hockey hero, Major Dhyan Chand, the 29th of August is dedicated to all the eminent sports personalities of our great nation and is named 'National. Sports Day' or 'Rashtriya Khel Diwas.' This hockey legend was born in Allahabad in 1905 and went on to create records in winning multiple laurels in many Olympics there after. He struck gold in not one but three Olympics...1928, 1932, and 1936, scoring more than 400 goals in his sporting career spanning 22 years! Sports play an integral part in a child's growing up years as it fosters a sense of give and take, and the spirit of winning and losing is a part of life's upheaval! Let us encourage sports at all levels to build a healthy and powerful nation.
It wouldn't come at a better time to celebrate our school's football team, which gained the second place that concluded yesterday. Kudos to the entire team. We are proud of them! Happy National Sports Day.
