The game of chess originated in India long before we started celebrating the grand masters. Chess is also called the mind game. The erstwhile kings who ruled India played chess. It was meant only for the intellectuals and royalties! Now, we have many champions in the making who are doing not only themselves but the country proud. On this day in the year 1986, Ms. Bhagyashree Sathe was crowned as the Grand Master in chess. She continued to remain at the top from the year 1984-91! A stupendous achievement, no doubt. From then on, our country has been producing chess grandmasters like Vishwanath Anand, Gukesh D, Praggnanandhaa R, and Arjuna Erigaisi, to name a few. Chess is a mind game as a lot of thought processes is helmed in the mind before moving a pawn. Playing chess also fosters a lot of patience. To many, it is de-stressing. Let us encourage our young learners to play chess, shall we?
